We Lost...

We lost in Skudai and almost everywhere else. Gerakan was decimated in Penang, Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. We still have a state seat in Kedah and Pahang. Johor retains state seats in Bukit Batu and Pemanis while the parliamentary seat in Simpang Renggam was retained by YB Liang Teck Meng.

The lost was almost expected in Skudai. Campaigning did not go well. Many branch leaders did not support the effort and leeches were everywhere. Funds was limited, held up at the division level headed by YB Aziz Sapian. The campaign manager was inexperienced and many of the old guards were not utilised. The campaign center was almost deserted most of the time. Signs was evident and none more than the well attended ceramahs held by the opposition. Our own ceramahs were mostly attended by the converted and did not make a dent into the public's perception and opinion. In short, the campaign was a disaster. Even the campaign poster was deemed arrogant and pompous by the public.

Nationally the situation is even more grave. The leadership is now headless. None of the top leadership won in their seats. The next party election is crucial for the party. It is a matter of life and death. Picking the right leader will be crucial for the party. The new or old leader to be elected will have to bring the party out from this depression. Someone will have to provide the vision and the moral compass for the party that can make us relevant again.

Chua Soi Lek is not dead and buried

Chua Soi Lek is no pushover. At a dinner function organised by MCA Gelang Patah, his voice was strong and clear. The cadres went up on stage in full force to support this dynamic politician. Don't count him out yet. He may be down but definitely still in the game.
